Mission Aveda is to care for the world we live in, from the products we make to the ways in which we contribute to society at Aveda, we strive to give you an example of green leadership and responsibility not just in the world of beauty, but around the world.
The legacy of the founder of Aveda, Horst Rechelbacher goes far beyond the creation of Aveda. Horst was a pioneer of beauty, holistic and an advocate of environmental responsibility; your goal and your passion have left their mark as part of a global movement far greater than looking for balance and harmony, both individual and collective.
Born in Austria in 1941, the son of a herbalist and a shoemaker, Horst began to work in the beauty centre of the front of his house at the age of 14. "I was not at all a good student but I really wanted to be something different," he said. Horst had a natural talent and with 17 years started working as a stylist at a prestigious centre of beauty in Rome, where he took care of international celebrities. With only 20 years old, he had won the championship of styling european, which served as a springboard for travelling around Europe and the united States. "What is a call? You could say that it is almost like a fire that burns inside of me and it keeps me alive," he said.
AVEDA: LOVE IS ALL YOU NEED
A look at the life and legacy of the founder of Aveda, Horst Rechelbacher, who taught me the power to live in a site of love, to make the world a more beautiful place.
Horst was already an international stylist in his teens, and he ended up in Minneapolis by accident. Literally. During a competition of hairdressers in 1963, Horst had a hit with a driver who was drunk. He decided to settle in Minneapolis as a barber, and european. He opened his own center of beauty, Horst & Friends, and then some more. In the twenties, was already a successful entrepreneur.
At the end of the sixties, Horst ended up burned by the overload of work and came back to life thanks to herbal remedies prepared by her mother, and the practice of yoga and meditation. After a retreat to India in 1970, Horst joined the ayurveda in its style of life and in their business model of beauty centers.
Adopted a holistic thinking, the belief that individual beauty is directly related to the beauty of the world around us. Their ideas would revolutionize the beauty industry. "We are the land," he said. "We are soil. We are water. We are all. You can spend just a way of life organic if you can. Become a farmer. Cultivate in your own home. Grow mint and make your own tea. Celebrate life."
In India, it is also inspired to create Aveda. Horst learned to appreciate a lot more the power of well-being to promote the balance of the mind, the body and the spirit, the prerequisite for achieving the goals of the beauty of the client. He met Shiv Nath Tandon in the ashram Sadhana Mandir in Rishikesh (India). With he developed his first shampoo nail in the sink of a kitchen in Minneapolis, along with the doctors of ayurveda Vinod and Kusum Upadhyay. All continued to work with Aveda until the early 70's.
After this collaboration, as well harnessed, Aveda was born in 1978 with the vision of providing professionals of the beauty of botanical products that may be good for them, their customers, as well as to the Land and their communities.
The vision of Horst is a testament of how he was ahead of his time and, even though no longer among us, his legacy endures in countless ways: from the ritual distinctive of the neck and shoulder massage that has given fame to the centers of beauty Aveda, up to a way of undertaking that is respectful with the environment that pays homage to the companies with a conscience.
And most importantly: Horst taught us that: "Every day is a new opportunity to create positive effects. Even small decisions and insignificant that we make in our day-to-day (what we eat, what we wear, what we use in our bodies and homes) have a butterfly effect that goes far beyond our own person".
5,000 years of results: our earliest roots lie in ayurveda, the traditional healing in india that uses the knowledge of life and the interconnectedness of all things. Has been shown, over more than 5 000años, that to treat a person so full you get a greater balance and well-being, so we consider the effects of our products not only on hair or skin, but also in body, mind and emotion.
